Swindon Harriers have secured their highest-ever placing at the National Autumn Road Relay Championships, marking a major milestone for the club.
Swindon Harriers have achieved a significant milestone in the club's history, securing their best-ever performance at the National Autumn Road Relay Championships held at the Sutton Park course. The senior men's team finished in 12th place, a result that team manager Simon Dill has described as their most impressive outing to date.
The performance comes just two weeks after the squad claimed silver medals at the Midlands regional event. Demonstrating a clear upward trajectory, the team managed to improve their overall time by a full minute during the national competition. According to Mr Dill, the calibre of the competition was exceptionally high, and the time clocked by the Swindon runners would have been sufficient to secure the Midlands title itself.
A strong collective effort
The successful senior men's team was comprised of Harry Woods, Harry Edwards, Ben Cole, Alex Bampton, Ben Lines, and Simon Byrne. Their achievement was bolstered by a strong display from the club's reserve squad, which included Luke Byrne, James McGough, Sebastian Reynolds, Fletcher Hart, Oliver Lewis, and Isaac McAdam. This reserve group performed impressively to finish as the sixth-placed B team in the national standings.
Developing young talent
The club also saw noteworthy performances from its junior athletes across several categories. The U14 girls' squad, featuring Lyra Leach, Molly McMeeking, and Alice Averie, earned 11th place. In the boys' competition, the U16 trio of Leo Kyson, Joey Burdekin, and Jack Saunders secured 16th position, while the U18 men's team of Finley Byrne, James Mayneord, and Jesse Bryant finished just outside the top 20.
This sustained success across the senior and youth levels highlights the ongoing development programme at the Harriers, as they continue to compete strongly against top-tier clubs from across the country.
