Swindon Supermarine continued their dominant form with a 6-0 victory against Bemerton Heath Harlequins in the Wiltshire Premier Shield, supported by a mix of clinical finishing and youth development.

Swindon Supermarine secured their place in the next round of the Wiltshire Premier Shield after sweeping aside Bemerton Heath Harlequins with a comprehensive 6-0 victory. The result marks the second time in just three days that the side has hit six goals, demonstrating a potent attacking run that will encourage supporters as the campaign progresses.

The match provided manager Bobby Wilkinson with a valuable opportunity to rotate his squad. While the scoreline was emphatic, the evening proved equally productive for the club’s development, with debuts handed to Josh Blackwell, Jamie White and Ryan Alexander. These younger players integrated well alongside more experienced heads such as Jamie Edge and Zach Rugman, who provided stability in the midfield.

Marine opened the scoring ten minutes into the contest when Sal Abubakar broke down the left flank to deliver a pinpoint cross, allowing Marcel Lewis to head home at the far post. The lead was doubled nine minutes later. After visiting goalkeeper Lewis Gunstone-Gray parried an initial strike from Miles Ferguson, Jacob Bancroft was on hand to drive the rebound into the net from eighteen yards.

Despite some pressure from the visitors, including an effort from Malachi Johnson, Marine maintained their momentum. Shortly before the interval, a second well-placed cross from Abubakar found Conor Lynch, who converted to make it 3-0.

The second half continued in much the same vein. In the 53rd minute, Lewis cut inside to set up Abubakar for a composed finish, before the pair combined again five minutes later to set up Lynch for his second goal of the night. The scoring was rounded off in the 81st minute when substitute Brad Hooper, having previously struck the woodwork, raced clear of the defence to slide the ball under the advancing goalkeeper.

Twelve months after suffering an exit from the competition against Bradford Town, the performance served as a clear indicator of the progress made by the squad. Supporters at the match were left buoyed by both the clinical nature of the side and the confidence shown by the younger members of the team throughout the ninety minutes.
