Swindon Town team news: Defensive reshuffle required for Crewe clash
By Swindon Now Editorial Team · Published

Swindon Town face a defensive shake-up as they prepare to host Crewe Alexandra this weekend, with both sides navigating significant squad availability issues.
Swindon Town head into this weekend's clash at the Nigel Eady County Ground facing a necessary reshuffle in defence as they look to break their four-game winless streak in League Two. The Robins, who have maintained an unbeaten home record despite their struggles on the road, must adapt their back line following the suspension of centre-back Kaelan Majekodunmi.
Majekodunmi is set to miss the fixture after receiving a red card during the recent away trip to Rochdale, where Swindon were already managing a lengthy injury list of 12 players. With Stephan Negru also needing a new partner at the heart of the defence, the squad is expected to see the return of Sam Inwood, who will compete with James Ball for a starting spot. Additionally, the availability of Mitch Clark, who has completed his own suspension, provides manager Ian Holloway with a much-needed option to bolster the defensive unit.
While Swindon contend with their own selection dilemmas, opponents Crewe Alexandra arrive in Wiltshire with a mixed injury report. The visitors will be without their captain and defensive talisman, Mickey Demetriou, who is expected to remain sidelined for a few more matches. Crewe assistant manager Ryan Dicker confirmed that Demetriou is unlikely to feature until the trip to Chesterfield, noting that the player is currently expected back on the grass for training next Monday.
Despite the absence of their captain, the Railwaymen have received a significant boost with the return of several key players. Matus Holicek is back in contention after missing the midweek trip to Blackpool, while Reece Hutchinson is being assessed ahead of the match, having missed the last six games. Furthermore, Calum Agius has returned to the squad following international duty with the Wales Under-21s.
Swindon will need to be particularly wary of the attacking quartet fielded by Crewe, as Holloway has highlighted the threat posed by Jack Lankester, Joel Tabiner, Josh March, and Adrien Thibaut. Maintaining the club's defensive resilience at home will be the primary objective for the Town as they seek to convert their recent point-gathering form into a much-needed win.
