Swindon Wildcats reveal squad shake-up as title defence plans take shape
By Swindon Now Editorial Team · Published

The Swindon Wildcats have confirmed a series of squad changes as they look to build on their historic league title win, with several key departures and new arrivals.
The Swindon Wildcats have begun their preparations to defend the NIHL National Division title with a significant restructuring of their squad. Following a landmark 2025/26 campaign that saw the club secure its first league title in over 20 years and maintain a consistent presence in the national Final Four, the organisation is now focused on assembling a team capable of repeating that success.
Head coach Aaron Nell has confirmed he will move into a full-time coaching role, stepping away from his playing duties to focus on managing the team's transition. Several pillars of last season's championship-winning side have committed to return, providing stability for the upcoming term. Dylan Lipsey, Reed Sayers, Tyler Plews, Jacob Minter, and Edgars Bebris have all signed on for the new season.
The club has also announced five new arrivals to bolster the lineup. Canadian forward Sean Richards joins from French side Amiens, where he recorded 24 points in 44 games. Nell has expressed confidence in Richards' ability to lead the offence, noting that the team intends to structure their attacking play around his dynamic style.
Local fans will also see a familiar family connection on the ice, as Mason Lipsey joins the roster after four seasons with the Bristol Pitbulls. Nell highlighted the significance of having both brothers in the lineup, describing Mason as a player with a strong hockey brain and work ethic.
Further depth will be provided by the addition of 17-year-old Harry Thomas, who joins Swindon Wildcats Two, while Jan Kostal Jr. and Oskar Sagan have been brought in on two-way agreements to increase the squad's versatility.
While the club welcomes these new faces, the rebuilding process includes the departure of five players from the previous squad. Luc Johnson, Tyler Watkins, Josh Shaw, Tyler Perre, and Logan vande Meerakker will not be returning to the Link Centre as they move on to new ventures.
