The Swindon Wildcats concluded their pre-season schedule with a 4-2 win against Basingstoke Bison, building momentum ahead of their league opener next weekend.

Swindon Wildcats finished their pre-season preparations on a positive note, securing a 4-2 victory over the Basingstoke Bison in front of 1,080 spectators at the Link Centre.

The match saw goals from Jan Kostal Jnr, Liam Fraser, Matthew Vermaeten, and Edgars Bebris, providing a strong finish to a competitive preparation schedule. The result followed a series of hard-fought games against the Telford Tigers, which tested the squad's ability to maintain focus while protecting a lead. Head coach and the team management will look to build on these performances as the competitive NIHL National season gets underway next weekend with a fixture against the Peterborough Phantoms.

A significant highlight of the evening was the performance of Jan Kostal Jnr, who netted his first goal for the club. The young forward is following in the footsteps of his father, Jan Kostal, who served as the club's captain for five seasons. Additionally, Liam Fraser continued his strong start in a Wildcats shirt, adding to the goal he scored against Telford, while Matthew Vermaeten recorded his first goal at the Link Centre for the side.

40th Anniversary Celebrations

Looking beyond the season opener, the club is preparing for its 40th anniversary weekend, which is set to take place at the Link Centre this October. The festivities will begin on Friday 16 October, when the Wildcats face the Leeds Knights in a league fixture, accompanied by a Legends Fanfest.

The celebrations will continue on Saturday 17 October, with an exhibition match featuring the current squad against a team of club legends from across the team's four-decade history. The event will include opportunities for fans to meet former players, alongside live music and food and drink offerings. The club has confirmed that season-ticket holders will have priority access to reserve seats for these events until 30 September, after which tickets will be made available to the general public.
