The Swindon Wildcats claimed two dramatic wins against Milton Keynes Lightning and Basingstoke Bison, maintaining their momentum in the playoff race.

Swindon Wildcats secured a successful four-point weekend, relying on late-game resilience to defeat league leaders Milton Keynes Lightning and clinch a derby victory over Basingstoke Bison.

The weekend began at the Better Link Centre, where more than 1,400 supporters gathered to witness a high-stakes encounter against Milton Keynes. Matt Vermaeten set the tone early, scoring just one minute and 17 seconds into the match. Although the visitors clawed back to take a 4-2 lead during the second period, the Wildcats mounted a spirited comeback. Goals from Glenn Billing and Ed Bradley restored parity, and after a scoreless period of overtime, Caden Villegas delivered the winning blow in a tense shootout.

The momentum carried over into the following game against the Basingstoke Bison. Swindon took an early lead through Caden Villegas, followed by a quick strike from Liam Fraser to establish a 2-0 advantage before the first intermission. Despite the Bison equalising late in regulation time to force overtime, Vermaeten proved the hero once again, netting the deciding goal at 64 minutes and 32 seconds to secure a 3-2 victory.

These back-to-back results have provided a significant boost to the Wildcats as they push for a strong position in the league standings. Reflecting on the weekend, the team demonstrated the depth and defensive resolve needed to navigate tight contests against top-tier opposition.

Looking Ahead

Supporters are encouraged to head back to the Better Link Centre for two upcoming Halloween-themed home fixtures. The Wildcats will host the Basingstoke Bison on Thursday, October 29, followed by a home game against the Hull Seahawks on Saturday, October 31. Fans are advised to check ticket availability for these matches as the team continues its campaign.
