Residents can look forward to a series of seasonal activities at Lydiard Park this October, ranging from historical displays and ghost stories to outdoor cinema.
Lydiard Park has revealed a packed programme of events for the upcoming Halloween season, offering a blend of historical discovery and seasonal entertainment for the local community.
The festivities begin with the Rogues and Rascals Week, running from 10 to 18 October. This event at the Lydiard House Museum focuses on the estate's darker history, featuring a special display titled Murder at the Inn. This exhibition explores the 1684 brawl between MPs Henry St John and Edmund Webb, which resulted in the death of Sir William Estcourt MP. Visitors will have the opportunity to view a newly acquired painting of Estcourt and a copy of the official pardon granted to Henry St John by King Charles II. The museum is open Wednesday to Sunday, from 10am to 4pm, with tickets priced at £6.70 for adults and £3.65 for children.
For film enthusiasts, Adventure Cinema returns to the park between 16 and 18 October. The outdoor screening schedule includes a variety of titles such as The Lost Boys , Coco , Hocus Pocus Spectacular , Room on the Broom and Zog , and The Nightmare Before Christmas . Attendees are encouraged to come prepared with blankets, camping chairs, and picnics, though street food and a bar will be available on the premises.
Creative residents can participate in Mindful Art sessions on Thursday, 29 October. The workshops, which focus on crafting leaf lanterns, will be held at 10.15am, 11.45am, and 2pm. The cost is £5 per participant, with all necessary materials provided.
Those seeking a more atmospheric experience can attend the Lydiard Ghost Tales events on Friday, 30 October. Held in two slots between 6pm and 7.30pm and 8pm and 9.30pm, the sessions involve storytelling based on the spirits reported to haunt the Main Hall of Lydiard House. Tickets are £12 per person and include an arrival drink.
The programme concludes on Saturday, 31 October, with an adult-only Murder Mystery night at the Lydiard Park Hotel. This interactive event invites participants to examine evidence and question suspects to solve a case. Tickets are priced at £67 per person and include a three-course dinner and an arrival drink.
