Residents can bring their antiques to St Mary's Church on October 1 to help raise funds for a new cycle pump track for local teenagers.

A Wiltshire village is set to host a high-profile valuation day next month as part of a fundraising effort to construct a new cycle pump track. The event will take place at St Mary’s Church in Steeple Ashton on Thursday, October 1, bringing together specialists from the BBC’s Antiques Roadshow to provide appraisals for local residents.

Organised by Penny Hornsey, the event is designed to generate funds for a new facility aimed at providing better outdoor recreational opportunities for local teenagers. The proposed cycle pump track is expected to cost approximately £40,000. Ms Hornsey noted that while the track is primarily intended for teenagers, it is expected to be a popular addition for residents of all ages.

The event will feature valuation services from Lee Young, Lisa Lloyd, and Marc Allum, all of whom are familiar to viewers of the long-running BBC programme. Organisers are encouraging residents from Steeple Ashton and surrounding villages to attend with their curiosities and heirlooms.

“We just thought it was perfect for this village and surrounding villages,” said Ms Hornsey. “I am hoping that we are going to draw a lot in from other villages too and towns.”

The event is open from 10am to 4pm, with no prior booking required. While entry is free, organisers are requesting a discretionary donation to support the fundraising target. Visitors will also be able to purchase refreshments, including homemade cakes, ploughman's lunches, and drinks from a pop-up wine bar.

The village has already made significant strides in upgrading its recreation ground, having previously raised around £10,000 through various community initiatives, including bingo nights, a dog show, and raffles. These funds have already contributed to the installation of new benches, cricket nets, football facilities, and a pétanque court. Plans for future improvements include the installation of a new trampoline, a zip wire, and additional play equipment to further enhance the site.
