Trowbridge has officially kicked off its annual Poppy Appeal, with the town's mayor accepting the first poppy of the season ahead of the upcoming collection period.

Trowbridge has officially launched its annual Poppy Appeal for 2026, marking the start of the community's fundraising efforts ahead of Remembrance Sunday. The campaign began with a formal ceremony where the Mayor of Trowbridge, Councillor Stewart Palmen, accepted the first poppy of the season.

The presentation was led by long-time campaign supporters Bill and Jill Sherman, who are well-known in the local area for their dedication to the appeal and their work running the collection point at The Shires shopping centre.

Following the launch, the town’s fundraising efforts are set to gather pace throughout late October and early November. Residents are advised that collection boxes and poppies will be available across the town, including at various primary schools, shops, local pubs and offices.

Rick Owen, the honorary secretary and Poppy Appeal organiser for the Royal British Legion in Trowbridge, expressed his gratitude to Councillor Palmen for his support in beginning the 2026 campaign. Organisers have confirmed that the official collection window runs from Saturday, October 24, until Saturday, November 7.

The campaign culminates in Remembrance Sunday, which falls on November 8 this year. Alongside the traditional poppy mementoes familiar to many, the charity has indicated that a small number of new items will also be available for supporters to purchase this season.
