Care-experienced young people from across Wiltshire were honoured for their resilience and success in education, sport, and the community at a recent awards ceremony in Trowbridge.
A special awards ceremony held in Trowbridge has celebrated the hard work and determination of Wiltshire's children in care and care-experienced young people. The annual Star Awards, organised by Wiltshire Council, saw nominees recognised for their significant milestones across a range of fields, including education, employment, sport, and the arts.
Held on October 22, the event provided a platform to showcase the accomplishments of young people from across the county. The evening brought together a wide network of support, including family members, foster carers, social workers, teachers, and personal advisers, all gathered to acknowledge the journeys of those they mentor and care for.
Awards were distributed across three specific age groups: primary, secondary, and Post 16. In addition to the presentations, the event featured performances from some of the young people, who took to the stage to demonstrate their skills and talents to the audience.
Councillor Jon Hubbard, cabinet member for children's services, education, and skills, emphasised the importance of the event in reflecting the talent and potential within the care system. He said the awards are a reminder of how these young people have overcome challenges, supported their peers, and made positive contributions to their local communities.
Mr Hubbard also took the opportunity to acknowledge the vital role played by the professional network surrounding these young people. He noted that behind every success story is a dedicated support system of foster carers, families, and professionals who provide the necessary guidance and encouragement.
The event was supported by Connor Construction (South West) Ltd, which sponsored this year's ceremony. Ian Webb, a director at the firm, expressed pride in supporting the awards, adding that the stories shared during the night were both inspiring and demonstrative of the resilience shown by the nominees.
The Star Awards serve as a recurring recognition of the diverse achievements within the county's care community, highlighting both individual persistence and the collaborative effort required to help young people reach their full potential.
