Bradford on Avon Town Council and emergency services have condemned a fire that destroyed a picnic bench at the popular Barton Farm Country Park over the weekend.

A popular beauty spot in Bradford on Avon has been targeted by vandals, resulting in the destruction of a piece of outdoor furniture. Barton Farm Country Park, a site enjoyed by local residents and visitors, was the scene of an arson attack discovered late on Saturday night.

Dorset and Wiltshire Fire and Rescue Service confirmed that crews were alerted to the blaze near the Tithe Barn on Pound Lane at 11.02pm on 10 October. A single fire crew from Trowbridge arrived to find a picnic bench well alight. Using a hose reel jet, the team managed to extinguish the fire and declare the scene safe by 11.28pm.

Following the incident, Bradford on Avon Town Council has fenced off the charred remains of the bench while an investigation into the damage continues. In a statement posted to social media, a spokesperson for the council expressed deep disappointment, stating, "It is upsetting to see damage caused to a space that means so much to our community."

The council has publicly thanked the fire service for their prompt intervention, which prevented the fire from spreading to the surrounding parkland. Residents and regular visitors to the area are now being urged to assist the authorities with their enquiries.

Anyone who may have witnessed suspicious activity in the area around the time of the incident, or who has information that could assist in identifying those responsible, is encouraged to contact Wiltshire Police.
