Wiltshire Police have issued fines and offered speed awareness courses to nine motorists following enforcement operations in Chitterne and Chapmanslade.
Nine motorists have been caught exceeding the speed limit during recent police operations in two Wiltshire villages. Officers from Warminster Police carried out targeted enforcement on residential roads in Chitterne and Chapmanslade to address concerns regarding road safety.
In Chitterne, police monitored Bidden Lane over a 30-minute period. During this operation, five drivers were recorded speeding, with the highest speed clocked at 43mph in a 30mph zone. Following these detections, three drivers were issued with fixed penalty notices, which include three points on their driving licence. The remaining two drivers were offered a speed awareness course, with eligibility depending on their individual driving history and previous convictions.
Officers also conducted enforcement on the A3098 High Street in Chapmanslade, in the vicinity of the local garden centre. Over a 20-minute window, four vehicles were identified travelling above the 30mph limit, with the fastest recorded at 40mph. All four of these motorists were offered the option of a speed awareness course.
Wiltshire Police noted that the enforcement in Chitterne took place during challenging weather conditions, with officers reporting overcast skies, high winds and wet road surfaces following earlier rain.
A spokesperson for the force thanked motorists who continue to adhere to speed limits. The police have encouraged residents who have ongoing concerns regarding road safety in their local area to report them directly to the force to help inform future enforcement activity.
