Mark Sully has been named the 29th headmaster of Warminster School, overseeing a major transition that sees the prep school move onto the main campus.

Warminster School has officially appointed its 29th headmaster, Mark Sully, as the institution navigates a significant period of structural change. Mr Sully, who first joined the school in 2011 as a mathematics teacher, steps into the top role having served as head of mathematics and deputy head (academic) in previous years.

His appointment follows a long tenure at the school, during which he helped refine its academic strategy and internal culture. Mr Sully arrives as the school nears the conclusion of a major logistical project to relocate its prep school facilities. The move involves shifting pupils from the established site on Vicarage Street to a purpose-designed space at Weymouth House, located within the senior school campus.

The school has confirmed that the Vicarage Street site will eventually be sold. This decision is part of a broader strategy aimed at improving operational efficiency and consolidating the student body into a single, cohesive location. By bringing children from the youngest age groups through to the Sixth Form onto one site, the school intends to foster a stronger sense of community and facilitate better collaboration between younger and older pupils through mentoring and shared activities.

Mr Sully described the transition as a vital new chapter for the school. He noted that the reception from parents and pupils regarding the new environment has been encouraging. Reflecting on his shift into the headmaster’s office, he expressed a desire to maintain the institution's commitment to individualised care while adapting to the demands of a changing global landscape.

"I want to make sure that we continue to provide an outstanding education while keeping at the heart of everything we do our commitment to Ambition with Care, for Every Pupil," Mr Sully said. His immediate plans involve a period of listening to staff, pupils, and parents to ensure the school remains aligned with its long-term objectives.

Looking ahead, the new headmaster has emphasised the importance of the school’s historical connection to the town. Having served as a Special Constable with the Devon and Cornwall Police during his university years, Mr Sully pointed to his background in public service as a grounding factor. He stated that he views the school as having a distinct responsibility to act as a supportive neighbour and an active contributor to the wider Warminster community.

As he assumes his duties, Mr Sully is focused on preparing students for a future that increasingly rewards resilience and creative adaptability. He has invited the school community to remain ambitious, stressing that the institution must continue to be recognised as a place where high academic standards exist alongside an inclusive community atmosphere.
