A new high-speed charging facility featuring 30 ultra-rapid points is set to open in Wiltshire by September 2026, offering travel amenities for A303 motorists.
A new electric vehicle (EV) charging superhub is scheduled to open in Chicklade, Wiltshire, by September 2026, marking a significant addition to the infrastructure serving the A303 corridor.
The development, led by charging network InstaVolt, will feature 30 ultra-rapid 240kW charging points. Designed to cater to the high volume of commuters, holidaymakers and local drivers who rely on the route between London and the South West, the site aims to provide a more consistent and efficient charging experience.
The hub is designed to operate on a 24-hour basis for charging and toilet facilities. To support the increased energy demand, the site will integrate on-site solar power generation with battery storage technology. This setup is intended to balance energy usage by capturing power from the grid during quieter periods for release during peak demand, ensuring that charging speeds remain reliable even when the site is busy.
A notable addition to the site is the inclusion of Chickpea Provisions, a retail and food outlet operated by the Salisbury-based Chickpea Group. The outlet is set to operate daily from 6am to 10pm, offering food and local produce for those passing through the area.
Delvin Lane, chief executive officer of InstaVolt, noted that the Chicklade project was developed in response to consumer demand for more comprehensive stopping points. The facility is being built with the intention of serving both the immediate needs of current EV drivers and the long-term shift towards electric transport.
For motorists, payments can be made using standard contactless cards. Those looking for additional value, including off-peak charging rates available between 8pm and 7am, will be able to use the dedicated InstaVolt app or an RFID card. No subscription is required to access the facility.
The Chicklade site follows the model established by the company’s Winchester Superhub, which began operations in March 2025. It is expected that the new location will significantly bolster the support available for those travelling along the A303, one of the most vital transit routes connecting the capital with Somerset, Devon and Cornwall.
