Wiltshire Social Walks return to support German Shepherd Rescue South
By Swindon Now Editorial Team · Published

Dog owners across Wiltshire are invited to join a new season of charity social walks to raise vital funds for German Shepherd Rescue South.
A popular series of charity dog walks returns to Wiltshire next month, offering local pet owners the chance to socialise their dogs while supporting a rescue organisation. The 2026/27 season for the Wiltshire Social Walks begins on 4 October at the Tedworth House Polo Grounds in Tidworth.
Participants will take on a scenic morning route along the Heritage Trail. The event is open to owners of all breeds, not exclusively German shepherds, provided that all dogs are kept on leads for the duration of the walk. Organisers are asking those wishing to take part to arrive by 9.45am, ahead of the official 10am start.
These events serve as a primary fundraising vehicle for German Shepherd Rescue South (GSRS), a charity dedicated to the rescue, rehabilitation, and rehoming of dogs that have been abandoned, strayed, or subjected to abuse. According to event organisers, the walks provide much-needed support for the charity's ongoing operational costs.
Beyond the walking route, the event includes a post-walk social gathering where attendees can purchase refreshments and cakes. A raffle will also be held, giving visitors an opportunity to meet and speak with volunteers about the work carried out by the rescue team. Those interested in the organisation’s work, or who may be considering adoption or fostering, are encouraged to use these sessions to learn more about the process.
The launch of the new walking season follows the success of the recent Paws of Honour Charity Dog Show, which raised more than £700 for the rescue group. Organisers have confirmed that the dog show is scheduled to return on 12 September 2027 in Ludgershall. Past winners, including Margo the dachshund and Apollo the rescue German shepherd, are expected to return for next year's competition.
Those planning to attend the walks are advised to check the weather forecast and dress appropriately for autumn conditions. Further information regarding the rescue charity and updates on the walking schedule can be found on their official website and social media platforms.
