Wiltshire Council to decide on 343 new homes in four major planning applications

Wiltshire Council is set to review four separate housing applications on August 12 that could reshape parts of Calne, Malmesbury, Yatton Keynell, and Cricklade.
Wiltshire Council’s Northern Area Planning Committee is scheduled to meet on Wednesday, August 12, to deliberate on four significant housing developments. If granted approval, these projects would collectively add 343 new homes to the county's residential stock.
The committee meeting, which is due to commence at 3pm at the council offices in Monkton Park, will address proposals spanning four different towns and villages.
Calne
The committee will first consider a reserved matters application for 90 homes to be located off Spitfire Road in Calne. This site has already been a subject of significant local debate; it was granted outline planning permission on appeal in February of last year. Local residents have previously expressed concerns regarding the impact of the development on the town's existing infrastructure and the capacity of local services to support a new residential expansion.
Malmesbury
The largest application on the agenda is a proposal for a major residential development north of Whychurch Farm and west of Crudwell Road in Malmesbury. This outline application seeks permission for 149 new dwellings. The project design includes provisions for public open space and the creation of a new vehicular access road to serve the site.
Yatton Keynell
Residents in the village of Yatton Keynell, located northwest of Chippenham, face a proposal for 55 new homes. The application concerns land situated to the east of Biddestone Lane.
Cricklade
Finally, councillors will review plans for 49 new homes situated south of The Forty and north of Chelworth Road in Cricklade. This proposal is unique among the four, as it also includes the provision of a new cemetery for the community.
The outcomes of these four meetings will have a direct impact on the housing landscape of northern Wiltshire, influencing both local infrastructure requirements and land use in these specific towns and villages. Members of the public who are interested in the planning process are able to attend the committee meeting at the Monkton Park offices.
