Wiltshire Police have authorised a dispersal order for Melksham town centre and Queensway after a series of youth-related violent incidents.
A 48-hour dispersal order has been put in place by Wiltshire Police covering parts of Melksham following a spate of youth-related violent incidents. Officers announced the measure this morning after responding to four separate reports of disorder in the town centre on Saturday, 24 October.
The dispersal order, granted under Section 35 of the Anti-social Behaviour, Crime and Policing Act 2014, grants police the authority to exclude individuals suspected of causing anti-social behaviour or disorder from specific areas. The designated zone encompasses Melksham town centre and the Queensway area.
Police have warned that they anticipate the potential for further disruption into the weekend. The order is set to remain in force until 2.45pm on Monday, 26 October.
Under the conditions of the order, anyone directed to leave the vicinity by a police officer who subsequently returns can be arrested for breaching the instruction. Authorities are urging the public to be aware of the increased police presence and the active nature of the order during this period.
