Wiltshire Police have issued a warning to rural residents following reports that individuals are planning to travel to the area to engage in illegal activities.
Wiltshire Police have issued a formal warning to rural communities in the south of the county following intelligence that individuals intend to travel to the area to carry out illegal activities. The force confirmed on Monday, October 19, that they are aware of specific plans involving poaching and hare coursing in the region.
Inspector Andy Lemon, the force's rural crime lead, stated that the police are treating these reports with the utmost seriousness. In response to the potential threat, additional resources and targeted patrols have been deployed across the area. The force is also coordinating with neighbouring police departments to identify and disrupt any illegal activity before it can occur.
Residents living in rural parts of South Wiltshire are being encouraged to maintain heightened vigilance throughout the week. Inspector Lemon advised landowners to ensure that all gates are kept securely locked and to make entrances to private land as inaccessible as possible to unauthorised vehicles.
The public is encouraged to report any suspicious behaviour immediately. This includes sightings of unfamiliar vehicles in isolated locations or any activity that appears linked to poaching or coursing. If you witness a suspected crime in progress, you are advised to call 999 to allow officers to take the appropriate, immediate action.
