Wiltshire Police have issued a road safety reminder after recording almost 700 speeding offences during a county-wide crackdown in September.

Wiltshire Police have confirmed a significant increase in enforcement activity, with officers catching 699 motorists exceeding speed limits across the county throughout September. The operation, which focused on known speeding hotspots, serves as a stark reminder of the consequences facing drivers who ignore safety regulations.

Of those identified by police during the month, the vast majority were processed through educational or financial penalties. According to official figures, 624 drivers were offered a Speed Awareness Course, an option designed to educate motorists on the dangers of speeding and the importance of road safety. A further 72 drivers were issued with fixed penalty notices, which include a fine and penalty points on their driving licence.

The most serious cases have been escalated, with three individuals due to appear in court to face charges related to their driving. The force has maintained that these enforcement measures are a vital part of their strategy to reduce accidents and ensure safer travel on both rural roads and urban routes.

A spokesperson for Wiltshire Police said: "Speed limits are there to protect everyone using the road. Whether you are driving through a village, town or along rural roads, slowing down can make all the difference. Thank you to those who drive responsibly and help keep Wiltshire's roads safe."

The police have not indicated that the enforcement programme will slow down, with officers expected to maintain their presence at identified high-risk locations. Motorists are reminded that adhering to speed limits is a primary defence against serious road traffic collisions and that enforcement operations are conducted regularly throughout the county.
